The role:

This position is for a senior sleep scientist to assist the current RCH Sleep Chief Scientist with staging and scoring of paediatric sleep studies. These studies will include complex ventilation (CPAP, BIPAP and tracheostomy ventilated) as well as neonatal sleep studies. Additional roles will include provision of technical supervision to sleep unit staff, a contribution to the development of sleep unit procedure manuals, and management of the sleep lab equipment, including all aspects of software and hardware (Compumedics, PSG4 and Nexus). Occasional after hours on-call cover for leave or setup shifts may be required. This is an ongoing part time position of 0.2 FTE (7.6hours per week).

Key duties of the role will include:

Participate in the analysis and interpretation of sleep studies. The post holder will be expected to follow agreed laboratory protocols and to produce and to analyse respiratory sleep studies, and written technical sleep study report.

Actively participate in the scientific activities and research of the Department as directed by the Department Manager

Sleep Unit Laboratory management roles/ as directed by the medical director

Participate in the evaluation and ongoing development of technical procedures and policy

Supervision, training of new team members & provision of technical supervision of Sleep Unit Staff

Train staff members to protocols procedures & education

Participate in any other projects allocated by the Department head or direct supervisor.

General administrative housekeeping, including maintenance of filing systems and general departmental filing.

Attend, participate in and successfully complete training provided by the hospital, as directed by senior staff.

To be considered for the role it is essential that you have:

Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science or equivalent where ‘equivalent’ includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary institution which is recognised by the National Office of Overseas skills is mandatory.

Previous significant experience working in a paediatric sleep unit with demonstrated experience in staging and scoring paediatric sleep studies, including neonatal studies, CPAP, Bilevel and invasive ventilation studies.

Also desirable:

Management experience desirable.

Research experience would also be of benefit but is not a requirement.

There is a vacancy for a permanent part time Grade 1/2 Scientist to work in the Sleep Laboratory, Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (16 hours per fortnight).

The Austin Sleep Laboratory is a centre for excellence. As part of a teaching hospital, this is a large clinical laboratory service performing a comprehensive range of diagnostic patient testing; and treatment implementation and optimisation. The laboratory plays a cornerstone role in the department and has links to the wider hospital service as well as having links to other clinical services and academic institutions. In particular, it provides services to the state-wide Victorian Respiratory Support Service for patients with respiratory failure and has a proud association with the Institute for Breathing and Sleep.

We are looking for a sleep technician / technologists or EN / RN’s interested in working in a sleep laboratory for night shifts.

The Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Practice is a centre of excellence providing consultative services in respiratory and sleep disorders including a 3 bed sleep laboratory and a CPAP / Bi-Level Clinic.

Duties will include:

The Burnside Sleep Centre provides a clinical service in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders in adults. A fantastic opportunity has become available for a sleep technician to join our team of professionals. This position involves the set-up and monitoring of patients undergoing diagnostic and treatment sleep studies. 

The successful applicant must be prepared to work evenings (1900 – 2200) and occasional overnight shifts (1930 – 0730).  The centre operates 6 nights per week (Sunday to Friday) with various shifts on offer.  Previous experience from a diagnostic sleep centre will be highly regarded but is not essential, as training will be provided to the right applicant.  Availability to cover shifts at short notice would be an advantage. 

Essential criteria:

  • Bachelor of Science of equivalent (Physiology, Applied Health, Health Sciences)
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to deal with patients in a professional and confident manner
  • Competent organisation and time management skills, including the ability to set priorities, plan, and organise own work

  • Good troubleshooting/problem solving skills
  • Reliable and able to work independently as well as part of an integrated team

QLD - Sleep Disorders Centre - Casual Sleep Technician

Sleep Technicians Wanted

The Sleep Disorders Centre at the Princess Alexandra Hospital is a NATA accredited laboratory that manages all manner of complex sleep and ventilatory disorders. In-lab sleep studies are conducted seven nights per week.

We currently require a casual sleep technician to work a combination of set-up (6.30pm to 11.45pm) and overnight shifts (11.15 pm to 7.15am) on a weekly basis. Experience will be looked upon favourably. Comprehensive training (paid) will be provided to obtain the skills needed to carry out the tasks according to laboratory requirements. The applicants must be able to participate in biennial training weeks (held in 1st weeks of January and mid-August).

QLD – Queensland Sleep – Full-time Sleep Scientist

Qld Sleep is currently seeking a highly motivated full-time Sleep Scientist to work in our dynamic and challenging sleep investigation unit. Qld Sleep is a fully NATA accredited organization , performing both adult and paediatric sleep investigations throughout metropolitan and regional Queensland, including northern NSW.

Applicants should possess previous experience in a recognised sleep investigation unit, demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills, be experienced in using Compumedics sleep systems, and possess suitable undergraduate qualifications in science or a related discipline.  

The successful applicant will be required to: 

  • Provide timely and accurate analysis and reporting of physiological sleep recordings.
  • Facilitate and monitor patients undertaking CPAP therapy.
  • Assist in the maintenance of internal laboratory QC programs.
  • MSLT and MWT testing.
  • The implementation of Bi-Level therapy as directed by the supervising physician, working under the direction of the Senior Scientist.
