18 Apr 2019 // NZ Members - Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Travel Scholarship - 2019
Three travel scholarships (value NZD$2,000 each) are being offered to sleep physiologists / scientists and CPAP technicians / nurses working in the area of Sleep Medicine to facilitate travel to the 31st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian Sleep Technologists Association (ASTA) and Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) to be held at the Sydney International Convention Centre, 16th – 19th October 2019 or the World Sleep Congress to be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre East, Vancouver, Canada in September 2019.
Part of the selection criteria will be the submission of a project related to Sleep Medicine. This should be in some form of a report and might be one of the following examples: Case study, Research, Quality Assurance project.*
To be eligible for the award the applicants must be:
- Currently working in the area of sleep medicine within New Zealand
- Intending to continue to work in the area of sleep medicine
- Prepared to submit a project related to Sleep Medicine as part of the application
- Prepared to submit and present a report on return from travel (this can be about the project submitted as part of the application, or about learnings from the conference)
- A current member of ASTA

Applicants should submit the following:
- A current CV
- A summary of the proposed travel and how this will enhance the applicants career in Sleep Medicine
- A project report related to sleep medicine
Criteria used for judging:
Project report 75%
Justification of proposed travel 25%
The judging panel will consist of ASTA President and one nominated sleep health professional. No member of the judging panel will have a real or perceived conflict of interest.

09 Apr 2019 // Sleep Health Awareness Parliamentary Report Released
The final report from the recent Parliamentary Inquiry has been released. ASTA has been quoted in the report several times, as have other organisations. The ASA and Sleep Health Foundation have been instrumental in advocating for this inquiry.
There are 11 main recommendations from the report, spanning prioritising sleep, rostering, CPAP provision, diagnostic studies, access to CBT for insomnia, etc. This can be found at:
